Surface Finishing

Whether hot-dip galvanizing or high-temperature galvanizing: Our surface finishes reliably protect steel from corrosion, are visually high-quality, and meet the highest precision requirements.
Corrosion, weathering, and mechanical stresses constantly affect steel components and reduce their operational reliability.
The sustainable and precise solution: surface finishing by Lehmann, including advanced high-temperature galvanizing.

Hot-dip galvanizing

Our hot-dip galvanizing permanently protects steel components from corrosion. Hot-dip galvanized surfaces are robust, reliable, and economical.

The process forms a continuous and resistant zinc coating. This also reaches edges, cavities, and hard-to-access areas, resulting in durable products with high resistance.

Lehmann operates one of the most modern hot-dip galvanizing plants in Europe, to the highest standards. The usable kettle dimensions / largest component dimensions are: 6.70 m x 1.40 m x 2.80 m (LxWxD). Maximum part weight 3.20 t.

Hot-dip galvanizing offers long-term corrosion protection for up to at least 50 years, which often matches or even exceeds the lifespan of the components. This largely avoids maintenance work. The zinc coating is abrasion and impact resistant and withstands high mechanical stresses.

Hot-dip galvanizing is economical because initial costs are often lower, and its maintenance-free nature prevents high follow-up costs.

The process stands out for its sustainability and favorable CO₂ balance. It is resource-efficient, wastewater-free, and the resulting vapors are filtered and recirculated in closed loops. Hot-dip galvanized steel can be reused or recycled.

Another advantage lies in fire protection: Hot-dip galvanized steel structures achieve a higher fire resistance rating, often eliminating the need for additional fire protection measures. The process is also aesthetically appealing, as the surface offers an attractive appearance that can be further refined if desired.

Hot-dip galvanized surfaces are also resistant to chemical influences, thus contributing to the longevity and safety of components in a wide range of applications.

High-temperature galvanizing (HTG)

High-temperature galvanizing is an advanced hot-dip galvanizing process in which steel parts are refined in a heated bath at temperatures ranging from 560 to 620 °C.

This process creates a very precise and uniform zinc layer. It offers optimal corrosion protection and allows for tight tolerances, especially for demanding applications.

Our high-temperature galvanizing kettle has generous dimensions of 3.00 m x 1.00 m x 2.00 m (LxWxD).

Advantages of the High-Temperature Process

  • Lower melt viscosity leads to significantly better drainage behavior
  • Smaller openings possible for residual drainage
  • Less zinc carry-over
  • Reduced mechanical post-processing due to fewer zinc accumulations, drips, and sharp edges – for a homogeneous and resistant surface
  • High fitting accuracy, very good screwability, and improved setting behavior
  • No uncontrolled increase in zinc layer thickness on welds
  • Suitable for form-fitting and force-fitting connections (splines, screw connections)
  • Legibility of serial/part numbers is maintained
  • High adhesion even without phosphating
  • Ideal prerequisite for powder or wet coating. Grinding or fine dust blasting can often be omitted.

Protection Durations of up to 100 Years

Corrosion Protection is Environmental Protection

As operators of one of Europe's most modern hot-dip galvanizing plants, we contribute to environmental protection. Hot-dip galvanizing permanently protects steel from corrosion. This saves resources, reduces waste, and is more economical than other methods.

Sustainable Batch Hot-Dip Galvanizing

Batch hot-dip galvanizing is considered the most environmentally friendly corrosion protection system. It achieves protection durations of up to 100 years according to DIN EN ISO 14713. Compared to coatings or paints, it saves up to three times more energy and raw materials.
